Asia Argento grew up in Rome Italy. Her family is made up of actors and she herself has been pursuing both careers. When she was nine the actress made her film debut in the role of Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 the film of Michele Soavi's The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played in the role of Cristina Comencini's Zoo. In 1989 she portrayed Nanni Moretti's baby for the film Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). It was in Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career took off. she could transition from portraying very young girls into larger, more sophisticated role. The film received an enthusiastic reception during the Cannes International Film Festival. For Trauma (1993) it was the first time she worked for the first time alongside her father, the renowned Italian film director Dario Argento (her mother is among Argento's favorite actresses, Daria Nicolodi, playing an overweight girl who is in search of her parents' killer. The Phantom of the Opera is her third film that she's made together alongside her father, the previous two being Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's deeply absorbed and dramatic style is well utilized in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a Nozze in 1993. played a part in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di Vista in which she played Arianna a physically handicapped girl. This was an intricate and difficult role that won it the David di Donatello for best actress . Asia started directing in the year 1994 when she made two short films: Prospettive (1996), a document on her father, and Abel/Asia (1998), a film on the legendary film maker Abel Ferrara. The latter received an award from the Rome Film Festival. Asia was first introduced as a director of feature in Scarlet Diva (2000). In this film, she played the role of a lead actor and also wrote the screenplay. In May 2000, the film was made available both in Italy and across the world. The film was awarded a prize at the Williamsburg International Film Festival, Brooklyn. Anna Lou, her first baby, was born in the year 2001. She directed a number of music videos. In 2002, she appeared involved in The Red Siren directed by Olivier Megaton and starred alongside Jean-Marc Barr. Rob Cohen also directed the action thriller together with Vin Diesel. Asia is also the author of a number of stories that have appeared in prestigious magazines.
